Houston Community Services

Houston Community Services (HCS) is a private non-profit, tax exempt organization with a primary constituency of Hispanics. HCS was founded in 1974 by 12 University of Houston students who came together to discuss various problems faced by the Hispanic community of Houston, most of whom reside in the East End. Through discussion of first hand experiences, it was decided that the best method to address the problem was to establish a community center. The Center would serve as a clearinghouse to inform and educate the community.

Thus, HCS was incorporated in 1975, with three primary missions:

1) to establish a social service center;

2) to promote cultural enrichment; and

3) to engage in economic development activities.
